Session
Where do culture and ITEK sit within Nature-Based Solution?
Four presentations will highlight how culture, customary knowledge and Indigenous and traditional ecological knowledge can strengthen conservation across the Pacific. Topics include culturally significant vegetated firebreaks using bourgo, traditional fire management in New Caledonia, culturally grounded academic conservation leadership, cultural governance and holistic nature conservation. Together the presentation demonstrate the importance of embedding cultural values, knowledge and governance systems in contemporary conservation practice.
