The Pacific Islands Conference series
The Pacific’s headline biodiversity gathering returns 7–11 September 2026 at the Tjibaou Cultural Centre, Noumea. A 5-yearly series since 1975, the 11th edition is co-hosted by SPREP, the Government of New Caledonia and PIRT.
The first Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas was convened in 1975 to provide a regional voice for Pacific biodiversity. Since then, ten Conferences have brought together governments, inter-governmental organisations, conservation NGOs, donors, scientists, customary leaders and Pacific communities to chart the next cycle of regional action.
The Conference is the highest-level decision-making forum for Pacific nature conservation. Delegates review progress against the current Framework, examine the latest State of Environment for the Pacific Islands region, and negotiate priorities, targets and commitments for the next cycle.
The 11th Conference returns Pacific conservation to in-person Pacific soil. Delegates will adopt the next regional Framework for 2026-2030 and an updated Vemööre Declaration aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
